Discovering Peace

Implicit in the idea of discovery is something of worth—perhaps great worth. We do not “discover” an old newspaper. Discovery belongs to things that surprise us with value we had not yet seen. For all of us, life holds moments like this. Most of our days are spent managing the ordinary—sometimes even the painful. Yet every now and then, in the middle of the mundane, something glimmers. A diamond appears in the dust of our ordinary lives. Those are the moments we treasure. Much is said about God when the spiritual world is considered, but there are a few truths so profound that discovering them feels like uncovering treasure buried deep within the human story. This is one of those truths.

The world around us is often marked by turmoil. Nations struggle for power. People struggle for control. We try to force circumstances in directions that will not diminish us. Yet the more we grasp for control, the more unsettled our lives become. The same turmoil that shapes global conflict often echoes quietly within us.

Where there is turmoil, there cannot be trust.

Shame pushes us toward self-protection and away from trust. It convinces us that we must secure our own worth and defend our own future.

Turmoil is the lived experience of fear.

To know God is to know the One who is truly in control. This does not mean that God controls every circumstance of our lives. It means that God is always faithful in revealing love. That revelation is always enough to restore dignity, awaken courage, and invite trust.

Peace is not the absence of conflict.

Peace is the lived experience of trust.
